VONZETTA CRAIN

Vonzetta Crain’s art mirrors a juxtaposition between translucency and darkness. Whether Vonzetta’s medium is oil, acrylic,wood through sculpture, the rendering of her work looks at a grotesque object and transforms it into beauty’s elements. 

 

The purposeful exaggeration and symbolism of the facial features of her subjects elicits political awareness.  The caricatures, and the exaggerated nature of the images in her pieces appears to ask the audience to choose indengenious associations.  In the alternative, if ethnicity is not a choice perhaps fetishism? The viewer must address their own individual associations. Specifically, am I problematic when I label facial characteristics?  Are the faces simple carvings or ancestral, tribal languages?

 

Vonzetta’s sculptures have been juried into, The College of the Canyons Art Gallery in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She has had selected artwork in the AV’s Art Gallery, WacArt (We Are Community Art) art shows, online showcases, and featured In TrapXart’s October 2020 (volume 6) magazine.
